New Country Music Lyrics from Top Country Stars

In the early 1980s, a new movement occurred within the culture of country music: the urban cowboy. This style of music tried to move country music into a more easy listening, soft rock genre. While some artists during this time gained a small amount of popularity, country music fans wanted to hear something else, and thus the new country music lyrics and artists came into being. Many artists came onto the scene boasting that they were the new traditionalists, meaning they were keeping with the old style of country music, but adding their own twist and a new face. Some examples of writers with new country music lyrics and styles during this time were Randy Travis, George Strait, and Rocky Van Shelton, to name a few. They decided to bring back the traditional sounds of country, but added their own new country music lyrics to appeal to more modern times. Eventually, this new style caught on and suddenly country music had exploded onto the scene.

People like Garth Brooks suddenly made the new style of country music appealing to much larger amounts of people. His new country music lyrics opened the door to a new and untouched fan base, and not to mention it greatly increased the exposure he received. His album “No Fences” became a huge hit, and cleared the way for many more artists to write new country music lyrics. Today there are hundreds of new country music stars, all vying for a top spot on the Billboard charts. This is all thanks to the new traditionalists and the musical pioneers who decided to take back country music and turn it into something new and fresh, yet still maintain its roots. By keeping the sound and spirit of the older country music alive, and adding in a new wave of personalities, a new era has begun.
