Watch Country Music Videos and See Favorite Stars!

When MTV was first aired, it became a huge success almost immediately. Fans of punk, rock and roll, new wave, and even some easy listening were exposed to a whole new world by combining their favorite musical artists’ songs with videos. It gave people a new perspective on music, and gave the musical artists a chance to express themselves in more ways than just through sounds alone. It was a few years later that country music videos came onto the scene, largely because at the beginning, music videos were really only meant for rock and roll fans. Rap and country were not part of this family of music, and therefore airing or even making country music videos was practically unheard of. Eventually, however, the videos for this musical style caught on much like many of the new artists of the 1980s in country music. Soon country music videos could be seen on television, although not on MTV.

When cable TV took off in popularity, CMT was born. Short for Country Music Television, this channel was created in 1983 specifically for fans of country music, so they could watch their favorite artists on a special channel dedicated just for them. At the time, the channel was dedicated to playing country music videos 24 hours a day. Over the years, CMT has also added new things to its lineup such as awards shows, musician biographies, special television programming and much more. The channel’s home office is located in Nashville, Tennessee, which is also home to the famous Grand Ole Opry. It’s thanks to the millions of devoted fans who wanted to see country music videos on TV that CMT is so successful today, and it has forever placed country music in the ring with other genres of music like rock and rap.
