The evolution of country music over the years has bee remarkable as has the evolution of country music stars. The music has always attracted a large following, but today it is more mainstream then ever before with country music stars attracting huge crowds for their concerts and seeing their songs regularly reach the top of the charts. The new stars like Shania Twain, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and Faith Hill have a large fan following and their popularity just continues to grow.
What is remarkable is that some of the older country music stars like George Strait continue to be just a popular. He is now the all time leader when it comes to the popularity of singles releases and was recently awarded the country Music Hall of Fame Medallion. He continues to be popular with fans of all ages after over 25 years of recordings. His first single “Unwound” was released in 1981 and made the top ten. The hits have just kept coming.
Then of course there are the past country music stars who are no longer with us, but whose music continues to be as popular as ever. The prime example of this is Johnny Cash whose recordings continue to sell well. The movie about his life story was a box office hit and his legend continues to grow, as do the legends of other stars who made a great impact on country music during their lifetimes.
The story is nowhere near having an ending. The music continues to increase in popularity and some of the current stars are already become legends in their own right. At the same time, new country music stars are emerging every day, each with their own unique style and interpretation of the genre. The talent pool appears endless, much to the delight of country music fans everywhere.
