The Greatest of Country Music Singers

There has bee a remarkable evolution over the years in country music with new type of music being added to the genre by different performers and groups. The same evolution has been true of the country music singers themselves. The current generation of Americans probably has heard little about the famous cowboy singers who were probably some of the best country music singers of all times. These were greats like Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and the Sons of the Pioneers.

A few more may remember the country music singers in the 40s, 50s and 60s like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline who sang the traditional country songs. Then of course there was the Grand Ole Opry with stars like Roy Acuff and Buck Owens who brought country music into American homes over the radio and then through television. This traditional music included the sounds of honky tonk and blue grass and was followed by those like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson whose legendary recordings elevated the music to a new level.

The current country music singers have broadened the horizons of country music even more with a combination of traditional and modern styles. Singers like Garth Brooks have appealed to audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and classes. The same is true of Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Brooks and Dun, the Oak Ridge Boys, and the ever-popular George Strait.

These performers give concerts before sold out audiences and their recordings consistently reach the top of the charts. Who knows what fresh innovations the next generation of country music singers may bring as their talent emerges. One can only imagine that will continue to increase the popularity of a form of music that emerged from traditional folk songs and is now one of the most popular styles of music on the planet.
