Country Music radio - More Options for You

Country music radio is as widely popular as the genre itself. Continuing to gain new listeners every year, country music has taken the United States by storm since the 1970’s when it moved out of the Southern and Appalachian areas of America to reach a broader, more widespread demographic, geographically diverse within the United States. Likewise, country music radio enjoys ever increasing popularity as more local country music radio affiliates are added each year.

In this, the information age, however, there are an increasing number of options and venues for country music radio. Previously restricted to free public radio bands regulated and sanctioned by the FCC, country music radio is now broadcast over the Internet as well as by satellite radio providers. Able to broadcast without censor by the FCC, the programmers of country music radio have more access to a broader array of songs to choose from and can allow for more adult conversation among the DJ’s. Additionally, without having to rely on sponsors; satellite country music radio is able to bring the listeners non stop country music without interruption. The digital technology of satellite radio also allows the artist and song name to be displayed as each song plays so the listener may be alerted to new artists or songs and seek out more material.

Internet country music can be available without commercial interruption for a fee or with commercials when listening for free. Internet country music radio has its advantage in that most providers allow the listener to rate songs according to taste or ban those songs/artists which they do not care for. In essence, Internet country music radio allows the listener to tailor a radio station to their individual listening preferences. Similar to satellite radio, Internet radio also displays the name and artist of the current selection, and allows the listener to seek out additional information.

As the popularity of country music continues to increase, listening options for country music radio are also being developed and refined to keep up with the growing demand.
